Kickstarter project to replace unpopular toilet brush with mini-jet wash could raise millions for charities

Does anyone enjoy cleaning the toilet with a toilet brush? Jet wash it clean with a Shiffter instead and help raise money for IBS, colitis and Crohn's charities

This product isn’t rocket science, however it has the potential to become commonplace in hundreds of millions of homes across the globe. Let’s face it, does anyone enjoy using a toilet brush?”

— Kam Mistry

STROUD, GLOUCESTERSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM, March 31, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — A British man is hoping to raise millions of pounds for charities if he reaches his Kickstarter funding target of £50,000 for the Shiffter, a new invention which aims to make cleaning toilets ‘considerably less disgusting’ than using a toilet brush.

The idea is a simple one – instead of using a toilet brush to clean the loo, you use a jet of water.
Kam Mistry, inventor of the Shiffter, who has been working on the project in the evenings and weekends around his day job, said:

“This product isn’t rocket science, however it has the potential to become commonplace in hundreds of millions of homes across the globe. Let’s face it, does anyone enjoy using a toilet brush? Does anyone like picking up a used one? Instead of using a toilet brush and bleach to clean a toilet you just pick up the Shiffter, which is filled with water and sits next to the toilet, and use it to jet wash the bowl clean. The feedback from everyone who has seen it has been great as they can immediately see how it will make a currently unpleasant chore much easier and cleaner. It’s also more friendly to the environment as you end up using less bleach, toilet cleaner and water.”

Obviously talking about cleaning poo from a toilet bowl is something that we generally don’t discuss at the dinner table, and this is something Kam has thought about, but he sees it as an opportunity rather than a hindrance. In a world where video is easy to use for demonstrating how something works, it isn’t so easy for the Shiffter, as no-one wants to watch a movie of something so personal. To get around this, a short animation has been created to show what the product does and then, using chocolate spread, the Shiffter’s effectiveness is shown in a brief video.

The Shiffter and a demonstration of it being used can viewed at www.shiffter.com and on the Kickstarter page.

Kam added:

“For obvious reasons, cleaning toilets isn’t something we talk about on a daily basis, and the same goes for illnesses related to digestive and intestinal disorders such as colitis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome and bowel cancer – to name but a few. Millions of people’s daily lives are blighted by such conditions but we don’t talk about them, so I’m hoping that giving 20% of profits from the product to related good causes will change people’s perspective and understanding about gut-related illnesses. It's about providing an opportunity to be more open about these issues which can be extremely demoralising.”

Kam is already in discussions with charities, including Crohn’s and Colitis UK, about their potential involvement.
Whilst a light-hearted approach is used on the Kickstarter website, he is hoping to raise serious amounts of money for charities with the patent pending product.

He added:

“With over a billion households in the world, the market is huge, and don’t forget that many homes have more than one toilet. On top of that there are toilets in hotel rooms and businesses too. The potential is enormous, especially if the patent application is successful.”

Phil Staunton, managing director of D2M, the product design company based in Cheltenham, which designed the Shiffter, said:

“It is a quirky new product with an interesting brand which provides a simple solution to an age-old problem. The design is very elegant and is styled nicely to suit any style of bathroom.”

Vicki Strachan, partner and patent attorney at Wynne-Jones IP, added:

“A good product needs to solve a problem, have a market and be affordable, and the Shiffter ticks those boxes. Additionally, everything it does is easily explained in just a few seconds and this makes it even more easy to market. Whilst it’s a relatively simple idea, its functional design features, name and branding – including the commitment to raising money for good causes – are all factors that increase the Shiffter’s potential for success.”

Whilst Kam intends to initially give 20% of profits to good causes, he wants that figure to rise as sales improve over time, so the potential to raise tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds for related good causes is very real, if he can reach his funding target to go into production.

The Kickstarter project is currently live and ends on Tuesday 2 May. If the funding target of £50,000 on the crowdfunding website is reached, the Shiffter will go into production in the summer and be available to buy shortly afterwards.

A UK patent is pending (Patent Application No. 1613313.4) with foreign applications due to be filed in the next few weeks.

Raw milk raid subject to scrutiny in court proceedings

This is overkill. We are peaceful farm owners. The arresting officers put us in the category of domestic terrorists just because we want to continue drinking fresh milk from our cows.”

— Beverly Viljakainen, witness for the defense

WALKERTON, ONTARIO, CANADA, March 30, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — A 10-day trial of four farmers came to a close last Friday, March 24, 2017. It became clear to the judge early in the trial that the 5-days allocated were not enough. After 10 days, the judge adjourned the trial until June due to lack of courtroom space.

An added challenge to the court proceedings was the investigating officer’s false claim that the farmers were members of the “Freemen of the Land” extremist group which led to the presence of a special police force during trial and mandatory heightened security.

The classification was sent to a national database and to border agencies affecting the accused in many aspects of their private lives and putting tremendous burden on them. During the trial, the officer who got the arrest warrant, under oath retracted the assertion that the arrestees were part of the “Freeman of the Land” extremist group.

Walkerton court employees jokingly call the criminal charges against the farmers, and the subsequent court proceedings, the “trial of the century” These four men, along with a fifth whose charges were dropped, were charged with obstructing a police officer during a well-publicized raid on Glencolton Farms on October 2nd 2015.

The four men on trial are Michael Schmidt an outspoken activist on food rights who lives on the farm that was raided; Robert Pinnell, whose charges were recently dismissed due to lack of evidence; John Schnurr, business consultant; and George Bothwell who was still at-large prior to the trial but was arrested when he appeared in court.

Glencolton Farms co op owners testified about the dramatic stand-off at their farm where they source their food. The farm has been the center of the Canadian raw milk battle for over 23 years. 150 families who are members in the Our Farm-Our Foods cooperative, own Glencolton Farms dairy cooperatively.

“This is overkill,” says Beverly Viljakainen one of the witnesses called by the defense at the trial. “We are peaceful farm owners. The arresting officers put us in the category of domestic terrorists just because we want to continue drinking fresh milk from our cows. When will this absurdity stop?”

The date in June for the continuation of the trial has not been determined. None of the remaining three defendants are in custody. All three defend themselves without a lawyer

For more info on the raid, see this Facebook video.

Our Farms, Our Foods Coop is a 200 member cooperative formed for the purpose of boarding personal cows with a responsible dairyman. The group is just one of the many interested stakeholders in changing Canadian policy on raw milk. For additional information on raw milk www.realmilk.com For more on this case see The Bovine.

Could Free Tuition Be the Wave of the Future?

Following Bernie Sanders' idea that "education should be a right and not a privilege", Ecosa Institute (AZ) offers ecological design certificate tuition free.

PRESCOTT, ARIZONA, USA, March 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Imagine attending an institution of higher education without worry of cash up front or spending much of your work life repaying school loans. If the Ecosa Institute has anything to say about it, free tuition will replace the current financial aid system saddling each of last year’s university graduates with student loan debt averaging $37,172.

Putting money where its mouth is and paying vision forward into action, Ecosa now offers 28 prospective students free tuition to its Ecological Design Certificate Program (EDCP). Value of the 15-week semester is $12,000 for each participant and accepted students need only prove competence and commitment.

“We want to reach students who have the ability to think critically, perform in-depth research, and commit to a demanding program,” said Tony Brown, Ecosa Institute founder and director. “The goal is to find students, regardless of income, who are most likely to create positive change in the world.”

The Ecosa Institute’s semester in Ecological Design was created in 2000 to show how human needs can be integrated with nature’s requirements to ensure that both thrive. Students are given new perspectives on sustainability and problem-solving through design in a small group of 14 participants who meet six hours a day five days a week in both studio and field settings.

The four-month certificate program emphasizes the balance needed between humans and nature through urban design, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, graphic design, and environmental responsibility.

Motivation for the free tuition offer tracks with the decline in government funding for higher education, Brown stated, citing that costs increasingly have shifted from taxpayers to students. Only 34 percent of Americans 18 years of age and older hold college degrees, he added, and even fewer are willing to take on large debt before they have landed a job.

An architect by trade, Brown apprenticed for several years with Paolo Soleri on the Arcosanti project, which proposed a radical new approach to structuring cities. That experience led Brown to establish Ecosa in 1996 and now, to spearhead free tuition.

“Paolo was a real inspiration for me and taught me how to ‘think outside the box’,” Brown explained. “Free tuition started as a crazy idea. Expecting that a tiny organization such as ours could influence the national debate on education seems bold and daunting. But our board recognizes that we have to put our stake in the ground and move the concept forward.”

As part of its efforts, the board has written a “Manifesto,” which identifies the current state of higher education, soaring tuition debt, ignorance leading to a downward spiral in social engagement and civic involvement, income inequality, and the premise that students should not be forced into debt to be educated. Read the Manifesto at http://www.ecosa.org/manifesto/.

“We believe a pay-to-learn policy creates a divided society and our program provides an important role model for the next generation approach to higher education,” Brown stated.

Ecosa Institute is undertaking a comprehensive fundraising campaign, including gofundme and corporate underwriters, to fund the free tuition program.

Deadline to apply for the fall 2017 semester is June 1st. Information about the two-stage application process is available at www.ecosa.org. A $50 non-refundable application fee is required when submitting the application. For additional information, call Laura Kasper at 928-541-1002.

ABOUT ECOSA INSTITUTE:
The mission of Ecosa Institute is to restore health to the natural environment, and thus the human environment, through education in design. The institute’s vision is of a world that blends the ethical values and ecological patterns, which are essential to the health of the world, with the vitality and dynamism of the design arts.

Whoop Wireless Launches the 10-4 SCI Small Cell Interface Head-end.

Wireless Inside. Everywhere

Revolutionizing indoor cellular coverage and capacity for mid-size buildings.

Whoop Wireless launches the 10-4 SCI Small Cell Interface Head-end, a game-changing technology that will revolutionize the way in-building wireless is delivered.”

— Richard Paul-Hus, CEO Whoop Wireless

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, March 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Whoop Wireless LLC, a manufacturer of in-building mobile reception systems, is announcing the launch of Whoop’s game-changing 10-4 Small Cell Interface Head–end (10-4 SCI). Mobile reception has been pervasive problem for buildings between 50 thousand and 500 thousand square feet. For these mid-sized, “enterprise” buildings, the large distributed antenna systems found in stadiums, malls, and airports are prohibitively expensive, and smaller consumer-grade solutions don’t scale effectively. However, the Whoop Amplifier Array provides reliable mobile reception to mid-sized buildings at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems.

With the explosion of wireless data, the wireless carriers are unable to provide the required throughput by delivering their signals from cell towers. As a result, small cells which transport the carriers’ signals over fiber, are becoming the predominant method to bring wireless service to buildings.

Whoop CEO Richard Paul-Hus explains, “Wireless carriers are increasingly challenged to deliver the data speeds that consumers are demanding, and over-the-air solutions cannot support the necessary bandwidth. Consequently, the carriers have become increasingly reluctant to grant rebroadcast agreements which are required for over-the-air solutions. Our 10-4 SCI connects the Whoop Amplifier Array to distribute the carriers’ signals from small cells”. Each 10-4 SCI can cover 250 thousand square feet, and a second 10-4 SCI can be added to cover up to 500 thousand square feet.

The 10-4 SCI features 10 signal input ports and 4 output coverage ports. This allows the system design to divide buildings into separate sectors with differing capacity needs. The 10-4 SCI has the flexibility to route each input to any selected combination of the four sectors. “With data traffic doubling almost annually, it will be necessary to intelligently and dynamically direct capacity where it is required as usage profiles inevitably change,” noted Rich Paul- Hus. Groasis’ low-cost, scalable solution invited to attend the United Nations World Food Programme Innovation Boot Camp to help ending world hunger by 2030

Drought and poverty are friends”

— Celine van Haaften

STEENBERGEN, NOORD-BRABANT, THE NETHERLANDS, March 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Together with Singularity University, the World Food Programme (WFP) recently called for ideas to provide sustainable access to local and nutritious food in emergencies. Groasis responded, as we believe that the Groasis Ecological Water Saving Technology, an exponential low-cost technology, can help provide food, income, and local employment to hundreds of millions of the world’s poorest people. We are honoured to announce that from a very competitive field with lots of promising ideas and startups, Groasis has been selected to attend the World Food Programme (WFP) Innovation Accelerator Bootcamp.

Every year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is helping thousands, or even millions, of families caught in the grip of conflict or disaster. They provide basic food supplies or cash. But no one organization can do it all or ensure that no one gets left behind. People need to be able to support themselves, sustainably. And to stop people in emergency situations from going hungry, WPF is looking for bold new thinking.

At Groasis we focus on Renewing Soil, Restoring Land, and Reshaping the World and we fully share WFP's vision of at eliminating world hunger by 2030. Groasis’ clever Groasis Ecological Water Saving Technology allows people living in the most difficult conditions to produce nutritious food. Our low-cost, scalable solution can restore livelihoods and dignity in the midst of despair and enable severely marginalized people to support their household food and nutrition needs in a sustainable manner – thus lowering their dependence on aid.

It’s Time for Groasis: Renewing Soil, Restoring Land, Reshaping the World

The Groasis Growboxx® represents a paradigm shift in the approach to the hitherto intractable problem of degraded land. As such it opens up new angles of attack in the fight against some of the word’s other most pressing challenges, such as hunger, poverty, unemployment, sanitation, migration, climate change, and bio-diversity. Groasis features as one of the sustainable business opportunities chosen by the UN Global Compact for inclusion in its 2017 Global Opportunity Report for the disruptive solution the Growboxx® offers to global soil depletion. Groasis can renew the soil on, and restore the life to, this degraded land, reshaping the world in the process. Groasis means regeneration — for good.

The Groasis Growboxx® enables the planting of productive trees (such as mangos) in combination with near term cash crops (such as vegetables), offering a viable business model and sustainable way of life for 500mn small-scale farmers and one naturally suited to micro-credit financing models.

The Groasis Growboxx® can help provide food, income, and local employment to hundreds of millions of the world’s poorest people. Using the Growboxx® to plant productive trees and vegetables can result in 5-10 tonnes of produce per hectare, yielding food and income, creating work locally (one job per hectare), and preserving 90% more water than irrigation for human use (e.g. drinking, cooking, and sanitation), in the process reducing urban-migration pressures.

Joe Negron Under Attack From Tea Party Groups and Conservative Lawmakers For Senate Bill 10

Sen. Joe Negron Continues to Have His "Conservative Credentials" Questioned

TALLAHASSEE, FL, UNITED STATES, March 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Conservative Florida lawmakers and the largest TEA Party organizations in the state have one thing in common. They both are fighting against a bill being promoted by senate president Joe Negron (Senate Bill 10 – http://bit.ly/2mMDpez) to spend $2.4 billion on an unneeded and wasteful project to put a water reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee.

Lake Okeechobee has been the subject of many news articles in the past few years. Green algae and red tide were showing up on the Florida coastline and in the estuaries. They were being blamed on the runoff of water leaving lake Okeechobee, but as more data was collected and the situation analyzed in more detail in was revealed that red tide is created in the open ocean loop currents and not in Florida’s largest lake (http://bit.ly/2mMyKsY), and that sewage sludge is the main cause of water pollution in Florida.

In contrast to many news articles which blamed agricultural companies for polluting the environment with water runoff from the fertilizer they spread on their land, it was uncovered that the main cause of Florida's polluted waterways, which are too rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, is due to leaking septic tanks, north Florida cattle ranches and the mass disposal of sewage sludge throughout the interior of Florida (http://bit.ly/1NRRiQO).

Joe Negron and his cronies have been relying on erroneous news reports to push through a project to erect a single water retention tower south of Lake Okeechobee so that water leaving the lake can be stored, cleaned and released to the Everglades in a controlled manner – but water retention reservoirs are already being built to the north of Lake Okeechobee, in the $16 billion Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) because the U.S. ARMY Corps of Engineers has determined that the only area where it is prudent to build such expensive water retention reservoirs is in the north.

The water leaving the agricultural farms south of Lake Okeechobee is cleaner than the water leaving the lake that enters their agricultural land. Farmers spend a considerable amount of money, and effort, to make sure the water that irrigates their crops is clean. The problem they are forced to deal with is the tainted water entering their properties from the surrounding sewage sludge storage areas, cattle ranches and leaky septic tanks to the north, that all drain into Lake Okeechobee.

If senator Joe Negron is so set on building a southern reservoir then he should create a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and solicit money from the pubic – instead of taxing every Florida for his foolish pet project. A more meaningful project for lawmakers to focus on would be to limit the amount of raw sewage sludge (human waste) that is being spread all across the sunshine state.
