Screaming Power has been developing a mobile solution set for several years and partnered with the City of Toronto through its Green Market Acceleration Program to create a user-friendly solution to help Toronto’s Environment and Energy Division manage, share and report energy information. The Pilot’s goals were to consult with the Environment and Energy Division to build a prototype mobile app that helps educate and inform the City, while aiding in achieving its building and energy footprint goals.

This Pilot Demonstration was highlighted to:

• Deliver a mobile platform in iOS and Android with key building KPIs
• Provide leading-edge multiplatform/multisource information aggregation within the solution
• Provide static and live data feeds for information management, modeling, socialization, engagement and user presentment
• Integrate and normalize multiple data sources to provide a more global view of the building footprint.
• Provide accurate comparisons and benchmarking of buildings with the potential for operations involvement
• Allow two-way (multi-way) interactions between the parties

The Intellectual Property (IP) that Screaming Power started with had 3+ years of research and development and encompassed over 550,000 lines of code that managed various aspects of the application, server and features needed for the Enterprise Solution. As time went on, the application also used code being developed from Screaming’s Customer Engagement Utility solution. This IP foundation allowed Screaming to provide a branded prototype solution for the first formal meeting using The City of Toronto’s energy and building data already available in the public realm. Once the initial meeting was complete and the first version of the Enterprise solution was being reviewed, the task was to allow the Subject Matter Expert (SME) at the City to be active in evolving the solution to meet the City’s needs.

The SME became engaged quickly, as he had something concrete to work with right away. It was realized early on that the SME required a process to be continuously involved in the application’s evolution, so it was imperative that a process be put in place for the individual to continuously have the pilot application in the palm-of-his-hand. This way, the SME could better understand the progress and comment on their specific needs related to evolution of the Enterprise solution. Once the mobile app process was put in place, regular updates were provided directly to the SME’s device and short meetings were held every week or two, where Screaming Power discussed changes with the SME, other invitees from the City and sometimes external energy supply partners were invited.

As of November 2017, the Solution is available to the City of Toronto in iOS and Android.

The Pilot program through Toronto’s Green Market Acceleration initiative provided great value for everyone concerned. Without this type of pilot, engagement between the parties would not have been possible.

Results of the Pilot showed that Screaming’s use of its existing IP helped create a cost-effective solution template that helped everyone understand the possibilities and future opportunity. There were many unique obstacles that had to be overcome while working with the City. Shared expertise and technology enhancements resolved any possible roadblock, yet it is hard to say that Screaming created a perfect template for the future, as every enterprise environment will have its own challenges. One thing proven in the pilot is that there is no obstacle that can’t be resolved with innovation and expertise.

The Solution’s capabilities to interact, educate and train was demonstrated without any added IT costs to the City of Toronto and the pilot did exceed the initial expectations of Screaming Power. In addition, there are anticipated future benefits for the City and others using this technology through its Continuous Energy Improvement efforts.

The patent protects a super efficient hybrid engine system, optimized to run on liquefied natural gas, and designed to power heavy trucks more efficiently than any drive-train to date, including all electric. This news come’s off the heels of Tesla Motors announcing their ‘all-electric semi truck’s debut.‘ WolvertonBailey’s hybrid system will rival Tesla’s anticipated truck design in terms of power; drive range, cost to implement, and carbon footprint.

According to company officials, Tesla’s proposed semi truck is classic Tesla, i.e. brilliant conception, fantastic design, and superior engineering, that does absolutely nothing to change the fact that electric vehicles cannot be a ‘truly' green technology until they are recharged by a ‘truly’ green electric-grid, which is at least 100-years in the future. “The big question, in the battle to reduce vehicle emissions and climate effects is should vehicles follow the Tesla model of recharging from the electric grid, or produce their own electricity using our next generation, super-clean, natural gas, hybrid-counterpoise engine technology” say’s Derek Bailey, a General Partner at WolvertonBailey Natural Gas, LP.

Bailey further goes on to say, “Supercharging a Tesla is like adding 30 houses to the electric-grid, which burns fossils to provide the electric power. How much power will the huge semi battery pack draw – 200 houses worth – requiring the burning of more coal and natural gas? Look, even in California, a green leader, 86% of electric power still comes from burning fossil fuels, meaning electric vehicles are ‘pollution-shifting’ not ‘pollution-eliminating.’ We can control emissions at the micro-scale (at the vehicle) much better and cheaper than we can at the macro-scale (at the power plant), and we think this is a smarter way to battle climate change.”

In July 2015, the Nevada based company received it first patent for the Counterpoise Bi-Radial engine. The patented design produces engines, which are lower-weight, higher-torque, and superior in fuel efficiency, when compared to standard IC engines. The patent anticipated to be granted in the coming days is for a hybrid version of the counterpoise engine that includes a super-efficient generator capable of producing vast amounts of electricity. The engine will be optimized to run on natural gas, the cleanest fossil fuel and an American strategic asset, and will debut a new emissions filter that with the clean-burning engine produces near-zero emissions.

On November 6, 2017, the company filed for additional patent protection on a ‘System, Method, and Apparatus for the Production of Liquefied Natural Gas Onboard a Vehicle’ which will allow heavy trucks to produce liquefied natural gas at the vehicle, using a new home refrigerator size conversion unit and any normal gas line. This new technology could save industry and governments up to $800 billion on the costs to build additional natural gas fueling stations and/or electric vehicle supercharging stations.

Throughout the research and development process, WolvertonBailey Natural Gas Engines, LP has sought to align its vision with the key objectives of the Paris Climate Accord for big engine efficiency improvements, which seek to push these vehicles from 6 MPG up to 11 MPG. The Paris Accord presented no solution to the infrastructure building problems associated with refueling heavy vehicles either by natural gas or electric.

WolvertonBailey’s heavy engine solution exceeds the Paris Accord’s goal, offering a higher average of 15+ Mpg, and with near-zero emissions. As millions of American families celebrate Thanksgiving with traditional holiday meals, an inevitable crisis looms. Fat, oil and grease (FOG) from turkey, ham, bacon and all the trimmings will be discarded down kitchen sinks and toilets across the nation.

To shed a light on the damaging disposal of FOG, FluksAqua, an environmentally-engaged free water and wastewater utility forum, conducted a national survey to ask Americans how they fare with the FOG of Thanksgiving.

Key findings of the survey:

Americans (say) they do the right thing
An impressive 80.6% of Americans claim that they dispose of Thanksgiving FOG using a separate container (the right way). Only 19.5% fess up to dumping FOG down a kitchen drain or toilet.

Sadly, the facts don’t jive. Greasy buildups remain an increasingly large problem across the US. In fact, last month a massive fatberg (a congealed mass of fat, personal care products and similar items found in sewer systems) was responsible for a sewer overflow that discharged around 1.2 million gallons of sewage into Jones Falls in Baltimore. In densely populated cities like New York, the problem is increasingly concerning. The City of New York Department of Environmental Protection, which services over eight million customers reported that 71% of sewer backup complaints were related to grease buildups in 2016.

New York and other major cities like Houston and Los Angeles have implemented FOG diversion programs to help curb the problem, but FOG build-ups remain a recurring nation-wide concern, especially around holidays.

“It is quite a spectacle to see dark brown tanks turn silver every Thanksgiving,” says Nick Hansen, a senior wastewater treatment plant operator in California. “It’s the turkey grease floating to the surface and the sunlight reflecting off of it.”

Americans are divided on FOG Flushing

A surprisingly close number of American dinner guests would “suggest using a separate container” for FOG disposal (35.2%) vs. 30.6% who would say nothing because “it’s not their home.”

A Majority of Americans will be Cooking a Thanksgiving Meal

While 33.8% report they aren’t cooking for anyone this Thanksgiving, the majority of Americans (66.1%) will be cooking some kind of a family meal.

Fact-finding research on fat flushing

Using a popular American brand of frozen and stuffed turkey, FluksAqua went to the test kitchens and cooked two turkeys in the recommended standard size range for a Thanksgiving meal that served 10-12 adults. “One cup of fat probably doesn’t seem like a lot of liquid to flush into the system,” said Dr. Hubert Colas, President Americas, FluksAqua. “But when you consider that thousands of households could be pouring that same cup of fat down the drain, it becomes a problem. This fat accumulates to create a clog in the sewer infrastructure and has the potential to damage pipes. Your cup of turkey fat may actually cost your water utility thousands of dollars in repairs which is ultimately paid by taxpayers.”

What you can do to prevent it

Ideally, Americans around the country would stop flushing FOG down drains altogether. “We recommend using a reusable container to dispose of it through your regular waste system, or an environmental depot,” suggests Dr. Colas. “Reducing FOG waste in the water infrastructure means less pressure on the system and can lower operating costs.

NELLYSFORD, VIRGINIA, USA, November 20, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Friends of Wintergreen announced today that nearly 1,000 Wintergreen property owners, a number that is growing daily, plan to individually sue the Atlantic Coast Pipeline for damages to their property if the pipeline company seizes land used by the Wintergreen community. These actions follow a rare split-decision by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve the 600-mile, 42-inch compressed natural gas Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) and grant the private pipeline company the power to use eminent domain to seize private land, including 7-acres of common land at Wintergreen.

"By approving the ACP, FERC effectively guarantees a 14% profit (or over $200 million a year) to the Dominion-managed pipeline company, a return that comes at the expense of many unwilling, uncompensated or under-compensated Virginia landowners". In the case of Wintergreen property owners, the land to be seized by the pipeline will come with no compensation to individual property owners, but significant inconvenience and damage to their property values" said Jonathan Ansell, Chairman of Friends of Wintergreen, Inc.

Most of the individual "inverse condemnation" lawsuits will be managed by the Norfolk-based eminent domain law firm, Waldo & Lyle PC. According to Brian Kunze, Partner at the firm: "Under the US Constitution and Virginia law, no private property can be damaged or taken for public use without just compensation to the owner. If a property owner does not receive compensation for the taking of land, as is the case for nearly 4,000 individual Wintergreen owners, these owners are entitled to obtain compensation under a legal procedure known as "inverse condemnation". We intend to file these cases the day after the ACP takes Wintergreen property".

Separately, Friends of Wintergreen and the Wintergreen Property Owners Association (WPOA) filed a legal action with FERC to halt the construction of the pipeline until a full rehearing is completed. "We believe that FERC's approval of the pipeline was arbitrary, capricious and not supported by the substantial evidence and alternatives we and others have provided", said Jay Roberts, Executive Director of the WPOA. "On October 13, the FERC Commission voted 2 to 1 to approve the ACP, a rare split-decision in a federal agency where 98% of votes are unanimous", noted Ansell. The dissenting opinion was issued by a Commissioner with seven years experience on the FERC Commission; the two Commissioners who approved the ACP were each on the job for about 60 days.
