EarthyPup Launches Eco-Friendly Dog Subscription Box

New Monthly Box of Sustainable and USA Made Treats, Toys, and Dog Products

LOS ANGELES, CA, US, January 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — EarthyPup announced the launch of their eco-friendly subscription box with an event in Los Angeles this month, showcasing the sustainable, durable, and locally sourced products that come in each month’s box.

“If you’ve ever seen a dog tear apart a toy in less than 3 minutes, you’ll understand what inspired EarthyPup. Tired of picking up filler and squeakers, we started looking for eco-friendly options, and realized that options were limited,” stated Anjelica Hernandez, founder of EarthyPup.

Earthypup selects products and packaging made from materials that have been recycled, or that otherwise would have been discarded. Unlike other subscription boxes, EarthyPup allows you to personalize your box based on your dog’s needs and your own personal values.

Items are built to withstand playtime and chew time – sending fewer toys to the landfill over a dog’s lifetime. All of this in an effort to help you minimize your dog’s carbon "paw"-print.

“It was inspiring to connect with the dog community at our launch and learn about ways dog owners engage in eco-friendly practices, as well as learn about the challenges they’ve faced when searching for eco-friendly pet products. We hope to be the trusted solution for all dog owners looking for easy ways to lead a sustainable life with their dogs,” said Hernandez.

EarthyPup partners with USA made brands so items do not have to be shipped around the globe, which lightens a dog’s ecological pawprint. They look to engage with dog parents from across the nation and create a movement that will push towards investment and innovation in this eco-dog space, support local manufacturers, and inform about ways to live green.

More information can be found on their website at earthypup.com.

ABOUT:

At EarthyPup our highest value is sustainability. Each EarthyPup pack includes five eco-friendly products based on each dog’s profile. We look forward to supporting manufacturers that build their supply chain using sustainable materials and follow eco-friendly practices. We believe there is no small act when it comes to helping make the world more sustainable. Everyone can use their buying power to make eco-friendly purchases. Why not let our pups share our values?

Florida State Parks Foundation Urges Legislature to Fully Fund Our State Parks

It is critical that the Florida Park Service receives adequate funding

When you compare the $54 million that has been requested with the $2.6 billion in economic impact that the state parks generated last year, it is hard to think of a better return on the investment.”

— Julia Gill Woodward

TALLAHASSEE, FL, USA, January 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Florida State Parks Foundation today urged legislators to fully fund Governor DeSantis’ 2020-21 budget request for Florida’s award-winning state parks.

“It is critical that the Florida Park Service receives adequate funding to ensure that our state parks continue to be the best that they can be,” said Foundation CEO Julia Gill Woodward.

“When you compare the $54 million that has been requested with the $2.6 billion in economic impact that the state parks generated last year, it is hard to think of a better return on the investment,” she said.

Governor DeSantis’ FY20-21 budget included $54 million for fixed capital and land management and an additional $100 million for Florida Forever.

Currently, both the Senate and House have indicated that their Florida Park Service allocations for fixed capital and land management will fall well short of the requested amount. The Senate has proposed $27 million and the House $37 million.

The House also provides only $20 million for Florida Forever although the Senate proposes $125 million.

“Our state park system is acknowledged as the best in the nation,” said President Gil Ziffer. “This was recognized nationally by the award of a record fourth Gold Medal for Excellence just this past fall.”

“Our state parks contribute to the state’s tourism industry while preserving many of the jewels of our natural environments and Florida’s significant historical and cultural sites,” he said.

“State parks and trails located in small towns and rural areas are sometimes the only economic driver in the community. Visitors coming to these parks spend dollars for lodging and in restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, bait shops, etc. If not for state park operations these businesses might not otherwise exist,” he added.

Last year, state parks and trails served more than 28 million visitors generating $2.6 billion in direct economic impact to local communities statewide creating more than 37,000 jobs as a result of state park operations. In addition, over $176 million was raised in the form of state sales tax.

“If our state parks are not adequately funded, aging infrastructure cannot be replaced, urgent repairs cannot be made and the park experience for our millions of visitors will be diminished. This will have a devastating impact on both economic returns and the environment,” said Ziffer.

The Foundation, working with the Florida Park Service, supports the work of Florida’s award-winning 175 state parks’ staff, local Friends groups and the 14,500 volunteers who donate 1.2 million hours of their time every year working in them.

Machine-Intelligent Technology Digitally Delivers New Level of Infrastructure Governance & Stewardship to Ensure Water Asset Resiliency

Customer connections that don't leak before rehabilitation, shouldn't leak after rehabilitation. If CCTV inspection is used, reliability of rehabilitation projects can't be assured.”

— Chuck Hansen, CEO & Founder, Electro Scan Inc.

BERLIN, GERMANY, January 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Electro Scan Inc. today announced that its CEO & Founder, Chuck Hansen, will speak at the 15th Pipeline Technology Conference (PTC) on Watertightness Testing of Cured-In-Place Pipe, March 30 – April 2, 2020 at the Estrel Congress Center, Berlin, Germany.

PTC is Europe’s leading conference on pipeline systems with more than 900 delegates expected to participate. Hansen will present his paper Wednesday, April 1, 2020, titled "Use of Low Voltage Conductivity to Conduct a 10km Inspection of Legacy Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) for a Leak Assessment Project."

A leading subject matter expert on pipeline condition assessment, Hansen is former Chair of ASTM Subcommittee F36.20 Inspection and Renewal of Water and Wastewater Infrastructure. Hansen also developed the first widely-used Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) coding system for sewer condition assessments in the U.S., used by nearly 1,000 agencies worldwide.

Prior to founding Electro Scan Inc., Hansen was CEO & Founder of Hansen Information Technologies Inc., a leading provider of sewer & water asset management and condition assessment solutions. Founded in 1983, Hansen sold the company to Infor Global in 2007 for US$100 million.

Now, an impact investor supporting measurable environmental and clean tech investments, Hansen is also an investment adviser to a leading California-based venture capital firm.

"Utilities are facing a trillion-dollar price tag to fix and upgrade critical sewer & water infrastructure, but a majority of engineers and contractors typically perform construction reviews using inherently limited visual inspection techniques to 'test' and 'accept' projects," stated Hansen.

Academics, engineers, and industry consultants have long recognized the limitation of using CCTV cameras to inspect the condition of existing, recently rehabilitated, and newly installed pipelines.

Today, sophisticated robotic cameras are still unable to tell the difference between superficial cracks and cracks that go through a pipe wall. And, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine-Learning (ML) add little to finding leaks that can't be seen due to drawbacks of visual inspection.

Given the impact of climate change and associated rising sea levels, utility managers must address the consequences related to more frequent and severe flooding, sewer overflows, and sewer back-ups due to leaking infrastructure.

Salt water infiltration now causes billions of dollars in damage to water pipeline infrastructure and costly delays in deploying badly needed wastewater reuse programs, as well as significantly impacting treatment plant performance and operational burdens in key coastal areas.

As the gap widens between 'what' utilities expect from their CAPEX investments and 'how' the market delivers CAPEX projects, the industry is calling for unbiased, unambiguous, accurate, and repeatable pipe leakage reporting to ensure resilient and sustainable improvements to infrastructure.

Technologies, like those offered by Electro Scan, play a key role in the digitization of water sector assets, connecting homes & businesses to sources of clean drinking water and the effective collection, treatment, and reuse of wastewater effluent.

Electro Scan's Focused Electrode Leak Location (FELL) technology represents a machine-intelligent, non-destructive, pipe assessment technology that uses a low-voltage, high-frequency electric current to precisely locate leaks, within 3/8th of an inch (1cm), and quantifies defect severity in gallons per minute or liters per second.

While sonar technology has been used to map underwater debris and lasers have been used to measure pipe ovality, sometimes marketed together as a 'multi-sensor' solution, neither technology has been effective in finding or quantifying leak locations or severities.

Similar to holiday testing of protective coatings, FELL is unique in its ability to test a wide variety of full length 360-degree pipe materials, whether empty or fully surcharged.
Data is transmitted to its proprietary SaaS cloud application via Amazon Web Services (AWS) with leak locations and severity data available within minutes.

Hansen has observed that many utilities and engineers are stuck in a 'subjectivity trap' using legacy inspection techniques that overly rely on biased and inherently limited technologies that visually 'see' or acoustically 'hear' leaks.

By using techniques that don't provide a complete assessment of pipes being tested, repair and rehabilitation plans may incorrectly rank and prioritize capital, resulting in ineffective use of capital resources.

Once repairs or renewals are completed, the use of the same techniques to test & accept construction and installations may result in utilities accepting pipelines with major leaks.

"Oftentimes, CIPP materials will line over bad joints and cracks," commented Hansen. "If customer connections are not properly reinstated, larger defects than were not present before rehabilitation may occur; transferring the same amount of water leakage to different locations, without lowering flow rates. With larger defects at laterals that didn't exist before, larger sources of infiltration or exfiltration can easily happen."

"Customer connections that don't leak before rehabilitation, shouldn't leak after rehabilitation," stated Hansen. "If CCTV inspection is used, reliability of rehabilitation projects can't be assured."

Electro Scan's technology was first introduced in 2006, operating in accordance as ASTM F2550, 'Standard Practice for Locating Leaks in Sewer Pipes By Measuring the Variation of Electric Current Flow Through the Pipe Wall.'

Later, ASTM Standard F2550 was reaccredited in 2013 and again in 2018.

In 2017, the company's technology was awarded Certificate No. 12 for 'Water Tightness Investigation Technology' by the Japan Sewer Collection System Maintenance Association (JASCOMA).

Later that year, Electro Scan in partnership with WRc plc, supplied leak detection testing services for a government-sponsors CIPP assessment project undertaken by the world's leading authority in pipe rehabilitation, Institut für Unterirdische Infrastruktur gGmbH (IKT), Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

As a result of its work with IKT, Electro Scan expanded its software to calculate individual quantities for pinhole leaks found in CIPP liners, now a standard feature of its SaaS-based Critical Sewers® cloud application.

In 2019, the company's technology was featured in AWWA's Manual of Water Supply Practices M77, 'Condition Assessment of Water Mains,' where it is the only recommended technology to assess CIPP pipes, in addition to other pipe materials.

International water utilities are now adopting FELL technology for testing & acceptance of trenchless rehabilitation, including CIPP, Spray-In-Place Pipe (SIPP), Spiral Wound Pipe, composite materials, and grout materials.

Test results were recently presented by BKP Berolina Polyester GmbH & Co. KG as part of their Conference Paper at the 37th International No-Dig in Florence, Italy, describing how the company's FELL technology successfully assessed the company's UV-cured CIPP. Minor defects were repaired with the client eliminating 100% of tidal infiltration.

Electro Scan company executives will be attending this year's IFAT Exposition in Messe München, Hall C3, Booth 429, May 4–8, 2020.

Leading sewer & water utilities, consulting engineers, and business partners attending IFAT can meet Michael Condran, P.E., Vice President, Electro Scan Inc., Mike App, Vice President, Electro Scan Inc., and Brad Weston, Director, Electro Scan (UK) Limited.

Held every two years, IFAT 2020 is expected to attract 150,000 attendees from 162 countries and regions. In addition to featuring its suite of machine-intelligent probes for pipe diameters ranging from 3-inch to 60-inch (176mm to 1500mm), Electro Scan staff will also be showcasing its integration with Innovyze® InfoAsset Planner® for risk modeling and rehabilitation decision support.

Hansen will also speak at the Innovyze UK and European Conference in Birmingham, England, March 4, 2020.

Legacy CCTV inspection is still useful, but not for rehabilitation selection or certifying repairs as watertight. In addition to identifying service laterals locations, CCTV is a good solution to observe obstructions, including construction debris, fats, oil, grease, and roots, and to manage ongoing cleaning activities.

CCTV's inability to locate or quantify leaks, especially in existing, newly installed, or relined pipes, especially at service lateral or junction connections, indicates that machine-intelligent FELL technology from Electro Scan is better suited to assess pipe conditions and rehabilitation effectiveness.

Mövenpick Resort Petra Makes the Most of its Precious Water Resource

Mövenpick Resort Petra Team Members

Green Globe recertified Mövenpick Resort Petra at the end of last year.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, January 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ —
The Mövenpick Resort Petra is located directly at the entrance to the historic Jordanian city of Petra. The resort with an oriental flair features an exciting combination of natural stone, handcrafted wood and Middle Eastern fabrics and textures where guests can enjoy time spent in one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations.

Green Globe recertified Mövenpick Resort Petra at the end of last year awarding the property an outstanding compliance score of 91%.

Armin Weller, Hotel Manager at Mövenpick Resort Petra details some of the sustainable measures implemented at the property that have led to the successful attainment of this high score.

Water Saving Measures

As the hotel is located in Petra, one of the driest places in Jordan and in the world, a great deal of our efforts are focused on reducing and saving water. This has been achieved by installing water-saving aerators on taps as well as dual flush toilets in all guest rooms. As a result, we were able to reduce water usage per room by quite a substantial amount. In 2017/18, 881 liters of water per room was consumed whereas in 2018/19, 809 liters was used, a reduction of over 8%.

Improved water management efficiency in daily operations also extended to better control of water used for irrigation purposes. More plants requiring less watering are now featured in gardens and landscape areas..

Reduction of Electricity Usage

The Petra region has seen the installation of a wind park to generate power in recent years. This greatly helps with our objectives to utilize renewable energy as over 90% of energy is currently imported in Jordan. We have also been able to reduce power consumption by 49.15 KW per guest/per room in 2017/18 to 45.18 KW per guest/per room in 2018/19. This was achieved by upgrading light bulbs across the property to LED, improvements made on the servicing of electrical systems and upgrading electric powered equipment to newer models (refrigeration, aggregates, motors etc.). The hotel has implemented Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) for all pumps that significantly reduce energy usage and running costs.

Waste Management Practices

Mövenpick Resort Petra remains committed to minimizing environmental impacts. The hotel reduced its waste volume by 2% over the past year although the number of guests staying at the hotel increased by 15 239 visitors. In 2017/18, 71,505 guests arrived at the hotel while in 2018/19, 86, 744 guests checked in. This reduction was achieved by introducing a recycling program for plastic waste throughout the property and raising environmental awareness amongst team members through on-the-job sustainability training.

Green Globe Platinum Status Awarded to Hôtel Martinez

Hôtel Martinez

Green Globe has awarded Hôtel Martinez Platinum Certification marking 10 years of certification at the property.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, January 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ —
Situated in a prime location on the exclusive Boulevard de la Croisette, overlooking the Bay of Cannes and the Mediterranean Sea, the luxurious 5 star Hôtel Martinez benefits from Cannes’ status as France’s second most important city for business tourism. Opened in the late 1920s, the hotel embodies the light-heartedness of the Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Green Globe has awarded Hôtel Martinez Platinum Certification marking 10 years of certification at the property.

Yann Gillet, General Manager at the hotel said, “The constant drive towards improvement has allowed the Hôtel Martinez to obtain Platinum Status. I’m very proud of this attainment. We have a range of key targets that we focus on that have included the reduction of single-use plastic, the improvement of food waste management, and support and engagement with local communities. I'm really pleased to see the continuous commitment of all our teams and their involvement in meeting our objectives. What is particularly inspiring is seeing this commitment to sustainability extending beyond the workplace to influence their daily lives as well. For example, even during their free time, many staff members choose to participate in nature cleaning operations such as ‘Nettoyons la nature’ where they work in collaboration with the local association Méditerranée 2000.”

Sustainable achievements over the last decade are many and varied, reflecting the dedication of the hotel toward its green goals.

Down to Earth Dining Experience

Christian Sinicropi is not the type to simply ride the wave of the latest marketing concept. As Executive Chef of the Hôtel Martinez, he channels his creativity and style into the culinary artistry of La Palme d’Or and the hotel’s other dining establishments. The two-star Michelin Chef’s cooking style is sincere and authentic where rather than creating menus based on the latest marketing concept, his approach is based on good old common sense. Chef Sinicropi tends not to dwell on mere concepts such as “Mediterranean cuisine, local food or seasonal products” as he feels that they are all too often reduced to clichés. His Italian and south-eastern French roots are a part of his dishes, as are his choices in regard to the sourcing of individual products.

Chef Sinicropi explains, “I prefer local partners not simply because it’s trendy, but because over time, we foster close bonds with each of our producers. It’s a mutual bond, I enjoy working with companies that share my conscious approach and together we wholeheartedly support our regional culture and the taste of local products. If you love local produce, you’ll protect the earth it comes from… naturally.”

RiseHy Program

As part of its strong commitment to inclusion and diversity, the Hyatt brand has launched the RiseHy Program where young people seeking work are offered training in the tourism industry to improve their future employment prospects. Designed by Hyatt targeting young job seekers aged 16 to 24 years old, hotels have pledged to hire 10,000 out-of-school, unemployed youth by 2025 worldwide with 260 employed in France alone.

In France, a national partnership has been established with ‘Les Determinés’, an association founded in 2015 that aims to develop initiative and entrepreneurship in suburban and rural areas. The association offers personalized support to assist underprivileged young people.

“Since October 2019, we have welcomed 14 young people to train at Hôtel Martinez for a period of 3 months in order to obtain a CQP (Certificate of Professional Qualification) in our Service or Cuisine departments. The objective of the RiseHy program is to develop their skills and offering them a work contract so that they become our talents of tomorrow,” added Yann Gillet.

Caring for the Community

Hôtel Martinez continues to contribute to charitable causes to support those in need in the wider community. To reduce waste in 2019, the hotel signed a partnership deal with the French association, Unisoap. This association collects used soaps from French hotels that are recycled by workers with disabilities and distributed to disadvantaged families and individuals in France and around the world.

Furthermore, for the past three years, the hotel’s beach restaurant ‘La Plage du Martinez’ has selected one of its dishes to support the association ‘Sourire & Partage’ (Smile & Sharing Association), a local charity group providing moral and material assistance to seriously ill children and their families. This year, the restaurant’s Healthy Poke Bowl has been chosen to help the charity where for each dish sold, 1 Euro is donated to the association.

NEW YORK, NY, USA, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Disasters such as wildfires in Australia remind us how interconnected we are as people, and as part of the global community. Businesses, governments, and individuals from around the world step up to assist the victims of floods, fires, hurricanes, and other disasters wherever they occur.

This is why Viking Beauty Secrets, a New York-based certified organic Nordic skincare brand, launched a campaign donating 25% of the sales to an Australian nonprofit wildlife preservation organization WIRES Wildlife Rescue. Ecologists at Sydney University have estimated over 800 million animals have been affected in NSW and over 1 billion animals in Australia since September. Viking Beauty Secrets is glad to support an important cause with historical importance.

In the wake of climate change and “no animal cruelty”, “sustainability” has become the keyword among the new skincare brands around the world. And no place is more sustainable and eco-friendly than Northern Europe, where Viking Beauty Secrets sources their ancient Viking ingredients.

It is a region that stands ahead in using sustainable energy, as well as gender equality and no animal cruelty. Viking Beauty Secrets is a small brand, however, it hopes that their action will awaken the big players of the beauty industry.

“As a no animal cruelty brand, we care about the animals and our environment, so we are eager to help,” said the founder of Viking Beauty Secrets, Eha Urbsalu. In the words of Urbsalu, the company aspires to live by the mission to be kind to people around us and the world that we live in. Every order from Viking Beauty Secrets will increase the overall contribution.

Sahara Group backs gender equality at OECD summit in Paris

Ensuring equal access to opportunities regardless of gender, is essential for promoting sustainable development, Sahara Group's Pearl Uzokwe has said.

PARIS, FRANCE, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Ensuring equal access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, is essential for promoting sustainable development across the globe, Pearl Uzokwe, Director, Governance and Sustainability, Sahara Group has said.

Uzokwe who spoke in Paris at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Private Finance for Sustainable Development Conference said galvanizing private finance alongside other sources of finance for gender equality was not only urgent but critical for sustained wealth creation, especially in developing countries.

Uzokwe said Sahara Group had consistently led the cause of equal access and opportunities in the private sector through support for gender related projects and policies that supports employment and growth within the organization which is free of any gender-based considerations. “Sahara Group is passionate about the issue of gender equality and we continue to promote and invest in projects that empower men and women to pursue economic prosperity. We are also entrenching gender diversity at the board level of the organization in line with global trends in corporate governance,” she said.

Noting the need for women empowerment as a precursor to achieving gender equality, Uzokwe said governments and businesses need to be “more deliberate and committed” in their support for activities that will connect girls and women to transformative economic opportunities. She said strengthening the private sector and ensuring well-defined and unbiased entry pathways are available at all levels.

“Sahara Group aligns with the position that empowering women and eliminating the hurdles to success for women in both the formal and informal sectors has the potential to set the tone for attaining several sustainable development goals, with special emphasis on goal 5 that speaks to gender equality,” she affirmed.

The OECD conference noted that a collaborative approach involving the government, business, civil society and development agencies will be required to achieve the task as raising private finance towards promoting gender equality.

Participants called for an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive and support female entrants, adding that diversity remained the most potent driver of innovation that is required to make businesses thrive and prosper. They also noted that since women provide 50 percent of that innovation ratio, ignoring their unique needs and offerings would be a cost too high for any organisation and country.
